Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki, (pronounced Ray-Key), meaning universal life energy is a hands on healing system founded by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. The system is based on the channelling of energy.
Usui’s original system is powerful and elegant. A way of life that strengthened your own inner resources to attain inner peace and awareness of our connection to the universe. It was a spiritual path that involved energy exercises, meditation and self-treatments.
Reiki is simple, yet profound.
As Reiki has developed in the west, it is increasingly perceived as a complementary therapy.

So, Reiki can be used as a technique for relaxation, inner peace and balance to use on oneself and others, or it can be practised as Usui’s original system, as a journey of spiritual growth.
Reiki is both a system and an energy and has a definite connection to a person’s spiritual side, the need to feel connected and a sense of inner peace and trust.
Reiki involves working with the energy to achieve a state of balance within your life. It is all about change – change for the better. As you invest in yourself, working with the energy, so you begin to make decisions to move closer to what is right for you.
The more you practise Reiki, the more beautiful it becomes.
In the West Reiki is not linked to any belief system, it can, and is, used by people of any background, faith or culture.
The more that you experience Reiki the more that you will see that it defies definition.
What is a Reiki treatment like?
This powerful but non-invasive therapy involves the recipient lying (or sitting) fully clothed whilst the practitioner gently places his or her hands on or just above the body in a sequence of positions. The practitioner channels positive energy through his or her hands, allowing the life force to flow freely to areas of need, be that physical, emotional or spiritual.
A full treatment may last up to an hour.
The practitioner will welcome the client and on the first appointment will complete a consultation. This also gives the recipient the time to ask any questions about the treatment. The hand positions will be explained and the client will be assured of confidentiality, respect and sensitivity.
Usually the recipient will be asked to remove shoes, glasses and watch where appropriate, to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible.
During the treatment most people will relax very quickly and many people fall asleep.
The most common feelings are:
A feeling of calm.
Warmth or heat from the practitioners hands.
An awareness of colours.
This gentle treatment complements orthodox medical treatment and is said to speed up healing and reduce pain. Reiki has a profound calming effect, helping to relieve physical and mental stress and promote well-being.
Reiki creates a safe place.
